Home damaged by plane crash finally demolished

BAKER- After months of waiting, residents of a quiet Baker neighborhood will get some closure as a home damaged in a plane crash last year is finally torn down.

The plane crashed shortly after the pilot took off from Baton Rouge Metro Airport in June 2013.

"I saw the house when it blew up and then I came out and saw the house blow up for a second time," said Charles Jones, who lives across the street.

Even after others had their homes renovated and repaired after the crash, they had to live next door to what they described as an eyesore.

"To be gone from our home for six months and then to come back to our home after it's been renovated, and to drive up and see this disaster it's not healing at all," said Talona Wright, who lives next door, "I think now we can push forward and go forward and kind of heal as a community."

Demolition crews expect the work to be completed by Wednesday, leaving only a concrete slab.
