PORT ALLEN- City leaders made changes to how city government operates in the wake of a debacle involving former mayor Deedy Slaughter.
Wednesday night, the city council approved a clarification about who is a city department head. While she was mayor, Slaughter often debated with some members of the council about who was classified as a department head and who was not. Slaughter vetoed a similar vote twice last year.
The council also approved requiring two signatures on checks written on behalf of the city.
Another change made during Wednesday's meeting was to set the pay of the mayor and a judge. Slaughter tried to raise her own pay.
Slaughter is running against a list of other candidates to regain her old position since she was recalled last year.
