School board president charged with felony hit and run returns to board

LIVINGSTON  (WBRZ) - The Livingston Parish School Board President is back at the helm after his arrest for felony hit and run.

Malcolm Sibley's been off the grid since the crash on June 15th where Cody Lasagi, 21, died.

Thursday night, Sibley attended his first school board meeting since the arrest. But, Sibley still refused to talk about anything not school related.

"The only new thing that has come up is the local district attorney Mr. Perilloux has elected to send the investigation over the the attorney general's office. We've met with the attorney general as late as this afternoon, actually, and Mr. Sibley is going to cooperate with their office to get this matter resolved," Sibley's attorney Sherman Mack said.

From the start, Mack has claimed his client was on his way to work when the wreck occurred. But, in a State Police report, people interviewed by troopers accused Sibley of being on his way to his girlfriend's house.

"I think it would be inappropriate to comment on frivolous statements that are second and third and fourth party hearsay. Anytime you have politicians in the limelight people are going to make accusations and that's strictly," Mack said.

Mack would not address any questions as to why his client allegedly left the scene.

The meeting went without a glitch until the end when a woman who was not on the agenda asked to speak and was quickly turned down by Sibley.
