Thousands of state workers to receive pay raises

BATON ROUGE (WBRZ) - Thousands of state workers will soon see a boost in their paychecks.

Beginning tomorrow employees at seven agencies, including the Department of Transportation and Development and Department of Environmental Quality, will see more money. The increases are determined by job performance.

It's been up to four years since some agencies have seen raises and several agencies credit smart planning and major streamlining for affording the raises.

"We have made a lot of cuts and a lot of things to be efficient. We still are providing the services across the state," said DOTD spokesperson, Rodney Mallet.

Supervisors recently evaluated workers to determine the raises.

The governor's office tells News 2 that if agencies are able to find ways to cut costs, they should provide merit raises, and because each state department manages their own budget it's up to them to determine how to allocate raises.
