Tony Perkins speaks against gay marriage ruling in sermon

GREENWELL SPRINGS (WBRZ) - In a Sunday's sermon, Tony Perkins maintained his views against gay marriage. He urged people of Christian faith to do the same.

"With this week's decision by the Supreme Court, it's clear that we've departed from not just that biblical understanding of what marriage is, but literally all of human history and nature itself," says Perkins.

Many who came to worship today at Greenwell Springs Baptist Chruch, also strongly disagreed with this week's ruling by the highest court to not interfere with California's Proposition 8.

"Marriage is between a man and a woman. That's we believe. That's what God gave us," says Mike Prather.

"It says in the bible that god made Adam and Eve. Not Adam and Steve," adds Thelma Pray.

Some disagreed with the comments, they say being a Christian doesn't mean you have to be against gay marriage.

"I might not necessarily agree with it. But, I think that they should have their rights," says Andrew Augustus." I mean what goes on in a person's bedroom is their business, " he adds.

While it's an issue that will no doubt continue to be debated among people inside and outside the church, Perkins warns the Court's decision is the beginning of a slippery slope.

"Americans will have a window of opportunity to see what came along with same sex marriage is not a hope chest but a Pandora's box," says Perkins.
