Woman fights to keep LA Swift Bus running

BATON ROUGE (WBRZ) - In less than a month the LA Swift bus service will stop running.

The shuttle was set up back in 2005 after Katrina to get people back and fourth from Baton Rouge to New Orleans.

The Department of Transportation says the federal money used to fund the program has stopped, and will end the shuttle on June 30,2013.

One woman who says she depends on the bus to get to work in New Orleans and wants an appeal to keep the service going.

"I'm doing everything I possibly can to try to get governor Jindal to see how much this service is needed," says Melisa York. " I sent him an email today and I started a petition on change dot org. I'm hoping that people will go online and sign the petition. So that I can submit it to governor Jindal," she explains.

Around 12,000 people ride the bus every month according to DOTD.

It says local government would have to come up with an extra $750,000 to keep the service going.
